Dart announces Joanne Lawson as chief executive officer

Dart today announced the appointment of Joanne Lawson as chief executive officer, effective immediately.  

Lawson succeeds Mark VanDevelde, who has served as CEO since 2008 and will continue as executive director and chairman of the board, focusing on broader strategic priorities across Dart's global business interests. The transition reflects Dart's long-standing commitment to thoughtful succession planning and positions the organisation for continued growth and success.

"Joanne has been an integral part of Dart's success. Her journey reflects what is possible when talent, commitment and opportunity come together, and I have complete confidence in her ability to lead Dart into its next chapter."  

VanDevelde has worked closely with founder Ken Dart and the Dart family for more than 30 years, helping to guide the company's growth and development in the Cayman Islands and beyond. As chairman, VanDevelde will continue to provide strategic guidance and continuity for the organisation while supporting broader board-level and global business priorities.  

Lawson, a Caymanian, is being promoted from her role as chief of staff and chief administrative officer. Since joining Dart as an executive assistant in 2003, she has steadily progressed up the ranks, having served in a variety of leadership roles throughout the organisation including in business development, property management and people and culture.

In addition to her leadership responsibilities at Dart, Lawson served as President of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce from 2024 to 2025, championing initiatives that advanced education, economic opportunity and long-term prosperity across the Cayman Islands. She continues to contribute to the community through her service on the boards of Cayman Airways and Code(Cayman), a nonprofit organisation that provides free technology education and skills training to youth and adults throughout the Cayman Islands.
